Flag Bearer

This is another campus of Le Cordon Bleu on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California.  Some observers report seeing students lined up on the roof removing their toques, holding them in front of their hearts and pledging allegiance to the flag as it is raised in the morning, and then doing calisthenics including jumping jacks with pots and pans clattering in their hands.  Rumor has it that at the end of the school year the students are lined up on the ledge on the periphery of the building, and those that passed are allowed to step down as they are presented with their diplomas.  Those that failed are pushed over the ledge.  There is some evidence to substantiate this fictive claim by alcohol addled sous chefs as there are blue and pink lines drawn on Colorado Boulevard in front of the building to indicate the landing zone.  However, there have been reports of occasional sightings of failed culinary students maning the grill in Arby’s restaurants.

Side Entrance

This is another angle on Le Cordon Bleu at the corner of Green and Oakland in Pasadena, California.  This is a side entrance on the Oakland side of the building.  I like the framing elements around the doorway and the windows and the reflection of the church in the window.  While we were capturing these images culinary students were scuttling between this building and an adjacent campus half a block away, up on Colorado Boulevard.

Day Begins The Turn To Night

Day begins to turn to night as the shadows lengthen outside of the Green Street campus of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, in Pasadena, California.  I like the detail surrounding the windows on this building, it seems to befit a stately old institution.  When I look at this image I anticipate hearing and seeing a gaggle of young men and young women coming out the doors, wearing checked pants, white coats and tall, white toques, chattering in French.  Alas, rather than the famous institution by the same name in Paris, France, this is but a trade school in the United States, that has inundated the airwaves with commercials romanticizing life in a most unromantic place, a hot, noisy, sometimes dangerous kitchen.
