The Dog House
Roadside Americana
Hungry, but a hamburger from In-N-Out does not appeal to you, just head next door to Big Daddy’s Fire Grill Pasadena, California in for wood fired burgers, dogs and sausages. I recommend the chili dog, a quarter pound hot dog slathered with a full bodied, lightly spiced chile.

A Man, His Best Friend & Favorite Toy
I met this gentleman and his companion at the Santa Clarita Valley Corvette Club car show, October 16, 2010. This was the first car show I had ever attended. This image was originally rendered as an HDR, however, now that the thrill of discovering the HDR process has run its initial course with me, I can look at the HDR image and admit that the process, and the state of my skill level at the time that I originally processed it, were both sub-par. In actuality this image did not need HDR processing and it was diminished by poorly applied HDR processing.
I’ve spent part of the past week going back in my catalog and re-processing images, losing the bad HDR and improving the final renderings. I’ll talk more about this in Wednesday’s post.

Hanging Out With Dad
The scene is the South Lake Avenue shopping district in Pasadena, California. Life couldn’t be better for a young girl than a leisurely afternoon window shopping ride with the family dog and dad towing us in a red wagon.

Strolling The Avenue
Street Life
The corner of Mercantile Place and Fairoaks Avenue in Old Town, Pasadena, California is a great place to hang out and wait for the people to pass by. I just park myself and the wheelchair in the shade against an adjacent building, and Judy heads in to the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf shop that is right there and fetches a very nice cold or hot mocha latte for me. I could not resist getting some shots of this gentleman and his dog out for a Saturday afternoon stroll. He was waiting for his coffee order to be filled, so he and his little companion were checking out the scene. I love the casual pose, the rumpled suit and the loafers without socks look. (I am partial to deck shoes without socks myself.)
Black and white conversion, cyan toning and black borders in Silver Efex Pro 2, everything else in Lightroom 3, which included a lot of work with the adjustment brush to adjust tones in the people (both on the street, and behind the window) and the guy’s suit.
Ready To Ride
I spotted this fella through the window of our van when we were pulled up at a stop light. I was able to grab a shot before the light changed. As is evident, his window was cranked only part way up so he could get plenty of fresh air. My window was also cranked part way up, and that did interfere with his image a bit, I was able to reduce the interference with some work with Viveza, and also to selectively improve exposure and push saturation. Not a true HDR, but a quasi-HDR created from a single raw image.
