The Passage Of Time

Another Time

Nikon D7000 18-135mm @ 62mm ISO 200 3-bkts f/16 Lr3, HEP; CEP3

Another street clock this week, this time on Second Street in Pomona, California.  Second Street in downtown Pomona was the original commercial center of Pomona but was mostly abandoned and various structures were removed over the years.  In recent times efforts have been made to revitalize the area as an arts/entertainment district, some of the old buildings have been rehabilitated, some restaurants and clubs have opened and closed and an “Antique Row” has developed.  A few years ago many of the old remaining storefronts on Second Street were repainted bright neon like colors and they served as a location for some of the Whoville scenes in the Jim Carrey “Grinch” film .  The most traffic through the area today might just be the commuters using the rail terminal that is just behind Second Street.

I could not find any information about this particular clock.  My intention with darkening and softening the edges of the image was to express an etherial feeling of the departure over time of the people who may have once lived, worked and prospered here in another time.

A very nice rendering, Wayne. It’s nice to see that these old timers can still be repaired and kept in use. I don’t think people depend on they as timepieces anymore but their beauty transcends the function.

  2. Thanks, Ken. I think you are correct, these objects are more about the ambiance they create.

    • Thanks, Jason. It was an opportunity to make something a little intriguing instead of just “ho hum”. There is so much opportunity with the post processing tools available to us.

  4. Wow, that is an awesome clock. Reminds me of my desire to one day buy a handmade pocket watch. Way outside of my price range at the moment, but it’s a goal.

Anyways, nice photo and nice processing too.
