Decorative Doors

Nikon D7000 18-200mm @18mm ISO 200 3-bkts f/10 Lr4,HEP1, TpzSim; PsCS6

Found at 140 East Lemon Avenue, Monrovia, California in an unmarked building.  Despite their embellishments it did not seem that the doors were welcoming any visitors, a little research indicated that behind the doors might be an industrial carpet cleaning company.  What ever the mystery behind the doors, I just liked the look of the doors.

Memorial To An Education Uncompleted & A Life Cut Short

Nikon D7000 1-200mm @ 18mm ISO 800 3-bkts f/13 Lr4, HEP1, TpzSim; PsCS6

I love these doors, I love the drama of the entire threshold.  This is the Mabel Shaw Bridges Hall of Music (Little Bridges), Pomona College, Claremont, California.  The Mission style building was designed by Myron Hunt and built in 1915.  It had it latest renovation in 2001.  The building was a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Appleton Shaw Bridges in honor of their daughter Mabel Shaw Bridges ’08, who died after an illness in 1907.

The Chapel Doors

Nikon D7000 10-24mm @ 18mm ISO 640 3-bkts f/16 Lr3, HEP1, CEP3; PSCS5

Just beyond the cornerstone is this colonnade that leads to the chapel doors of the First Congregational Church in Riverside, California.  It can get quite warm in Riverside and this passageway gives me a sense of the coolness that can be found in its shelter, and within the stone church building.  I purposely darkened the walls an columns and emphasized the warmth of the two sets of doors, and then also added blur to defocus on the sunny landscape just outside of the scene.  I really like the overhead beams and the doors in this scene combined with the perspective and selective focus.
