A Man, His Best Friend & Favorite Toy

Nikon D7000 18-125mm @ 35mm ISO 320 1/20 f/5.6 Lr4; PsCS6

I met this gentleman and his companion at the Santa Clarita Valley Corvette Club car show, October 16, 2010.  This was the first car show I had ever attended.  This image was originally rendered as an HDR, however, now that the thrill of discovering the HDR process has run its initial course with me, I can look at the HDR image and admit that the process, and the state of my skill level at the time that I originally processed it, were both sub-par. In actuality this image did not need HDR processing and it was diminished by poorly applied HDR processing.

I’ve spent part of the past week going back in my catalog and re-processing images, losing the bad HDR and improving the final renderings.  I’ll talk more about this in Wednesday’s post.

Peacock Syndrome

Nikon D7000 18-200mm @ 24mm ISO 320 3-bkts f/16 Lr4; HEP1

One of the many Corvettes on display at San Diego’s Embarcadero Park North at the North County Corvette Club of San Diego’s “Plastic Fantastic” show, May 6, 2012.

White On Blue 1961 Corvette

Car Show Fortnight

Nikon D7000 18-135mm @ 28mm ISO 800 3-bkts f/16 Lr3; HEP1

This beauty is a classic design harking back to the Corvette’s origins.  This is a very close approximation of what “Todd Styles” and “Buzz Murdoch” would have been driving around the country in “Route 66” in 1961.  There is no shortage of white haired men at the Corvette shows, which is expected since very few other people could afford to have as a priority in their lives, acquiring and caring for a Corvette (classic or contemporary), but there still is plenty of life in both the entusiasts and the cars.  If you Google “Martin Milner” in Google Images you will note that if “Todd Styles” was still tooling around in a Corvette every day, he would also have silver hair, reality having caught up with the idealized life.

Black Vette #22

Car Show Fortnight

Nikon D7000 18-135mm @ 50mm ISO 800 3-bkts f/16 Lr3, HEP1; PsCS5

Another black Corvette at the Vett Set show in Redondo Beach, California.  There were 90 odd Corvettes on display that day.  I’ve got the “CHVZ” on the license play figured out, but have no idea what the “WY” represents.

Blue Vette #16

Car Show Fortnight

Nikon D7000 18-135mm @ 32mm ISO 800 3-bkts f/16 Lr3,HEP1; PsCS5

This machine was on display at the Vette Set Car Show, June 11, 2011 in Redondo Beach, California.

Blue Chrome

Nikon D7000 18-135mm @ 58mm ISO 1250 3-bkts @ f/16 Lr3; HEP1

I captured just over 500 frames at the Vette Set show and this is probably my favorite of them all.  I feel with the tight framing of the “cockpit” and distinct images in the background, coupled with the HDR processing which brings out the interior details, that I have captured the essence of the allure of these machines.  It seems to resonate with other people, in less than a week this image has climbed higher than all other images I have shared on HDRSPOTTING.COM in terms of number of views.

I really was quite straight forward in terms of processing, from a clean capture through minimal post processing manipulation.  This is the kind of image I aspire to create on a regular basis.
